Carrie Underwood took a break from hosting the 2017 CMA Awards on Wednesday to perform “Softly And Tenderly.” Watch the video below!
As Gossip Cop reported at the time, . The track was from her 2015 album Storyteller, which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and at number one on the Top Country Albums chart. In early 2016, Underwood embarked on her “Storyteller Tour: Stories in the Round” concert series, playing 92 shows in the U.S., Canada and Europe. At this year’s CMAs, the star took to the stage to perform not a song from her album, but a moving cover of a hymn. The performance served to honor those we’ve lost over the last year, including Gregg Allman and Glenn Campbell, as well as the victims of the Las Vegas shooting.
Of course, in addition to hosting and performing, Underwood also went into tonight with the chance of holding on to the title of Female Vocalist of the Year, a coveted award she scored in 2016. This year, the superstar is competing against Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Maren Morris for one of the night’s top prizes. In recent years, Underwood has taken home numerous CMA awards. On top of winning last year’s Female Vocalist category, she was also awarded the same honor in 2006, 2007 and 2008. She also earned the 2006 New Artist of the Year Award, which was called the CMA Horizon Award back then. Another win tonight would mark her sixth CMA award in total.
Earlier this month, to promote and tease the 51st Annual CMA Awards, which they are emceeing together for the 10th consecutive year. During the interview, the country music superstars spoke about what viewers could expect from this year’s broadcast, hinting at a few surprise collaborations. Paisley said, “They really are thinking outside the box to make sure there are really cool collaborations that you don’t expect.
